A brighter future for Mayotte's young people
During an official visit to Mayotte, on August 22nd the French President announced an "emergency plan for young people". Active in Mayotte for several years now, Apprentis d’Auteuil, Le Secours Catholique and Médecins du Monde applaud this decision.
"Here in Mayotte, our only priority is young people, who are the future of France. (…) We will not accept the scourge of illiteracy and we cannot accept that a single young Frenchman or Frenchwoman does not enjoy all the conditions necessary to speak French and to gain dignity and employment. Young people want to be better trained because this is the vital precondition for success", stated the President of the Republic François Hollande on August 22 during his official visit to Mayotte.
This declaration was welcomed by Apprentis d'Auteuil, Le Secours Catholique and Médecins du monde, three associations which have been working here for several years now. They will support the implementation of this plan, ensuring that it meets the needs of the Mahorais, and eagerly await the appointment of a coordinator.
"We are available to the public authorities to take part in this process of dialogue. Our field teams have already started discussions with around 10 local associations and are ready to help draft the plan announced by the President. We will ensure that suitable resources are allocated to the concrete measures emerging from this dialogue, particularly with regard to education, health and access to rights and entitlements in order to finally be able to offer Mayotte’s young people a future", declared the representatives of the three associations.
Apprentis d’Auteuil receives accreditation from the UN

This status is granted to NGOs working in a specific field (for the foundation, support for young people and families experiencing difficulties). Consequently, Apprentis d’Auteuil is consulted by ECOSOC due to its experience out in the field and its expertise in France and abroad, for all questions concerning its area of expertise.
