Helping homeless children: our work on an international level

Our work as an international catholic charity: helping homeless children by providing them with an education and a future.

Apprentis d’Auteuil has been a charity based on child protection from the beginning. In 1866, our founder Abbé Roussel decided to provide the orphans roaming the streets of Paris with education and care. He believed that every young person deserves help when in a difficult situation, no matter their backgrounds and beliefs. We have continued our work in this spirit, expanding our children protection program to the whole world. Apprentis d’Auteuil is a catholic charity present in Africa, South America, Asia and Europe. We are working in 50 countries with the support of local partners, helping homeless children and families in disadvantaged situations.

The children protection program of Apprentis d’Auteuil

Unfortunately, children are at risk of abandonment, violence, abuse and poverty all over the world. The children protection program of Apprentis d’Auteuil, acts on two levels: supporting children and families in difficulty to prevent these situations; and with childhood protection, providing housing and education to young people who live on the streets.
The first level of support provides guide and assistance for families, and educational help to children. We also have maternal centres for pregnant women and young mothers, where a professional team cares for their psychological, educational and healthcare needs.

Apprentis d’Auteuil is helping homeless children, those who live permanently on the street in various ways. Today, more than 100 million children don’t have housing and family protection all over the world. Living in this marginalized situation, they are the first victims of prostitution, drug abuse and violence. Our goal is to provide them with education and shelter so they can integrate society. Let us tell you more about two ongoing projects in Africa.

Helping homeless children in Africa

In Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, 20,000 children are in a precarious situation, homeless, excluded from their families. With seven local organisations, Apprentis d’Auteuil is helping homeless children by providing them with personalized support to reinsertion.
In Antanarivo, Madagascar, our objective is to take care of young people with a drop-in centre. In this facility, we provide washing, nursing care, meals and rest three times a week for 50 children at a time. In the future, this local children protection program will be extended with training and employment services as well as sports and cultural activities.
